KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia were handed a favourable draw in the Sea Games men's team badminton competition on Saturday.

The second seeds will open against minnows Laos. They are drawn to face Singapore or Myanmar in the semi-finals.

Top seeds Indonesia are drawn to face Thailand in the other last four tie.

Malaysia will be led by Iskandar Zainuddin Zulkarnain in the absence of World No 4 Lee Chong Wei and Goh V Shem-Tan Wee Kiong, who all will head to Glasgow for the World Championships.

In the women's team, Malaysia will play Myanmar in the first round and are expected to face second seeds Indonesia in the semi-finals.

BA of Malaysia (BAM) secretary Datuk Ng Chin Chai said the men's team have a good chance of making the final.

"We will be without several top players but the ones in the team are eager to make an impression at the Sea Games," said Chin Chai.

The badminton competition will be held at the Axiata Arena in Bukit Jalil on Aug 20-26.
