KUALA TERENGGANU: Two cousins belonging to opposite camps in the political divide could end up locking horns in Kuala Besut in the 14th General Election.
Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia has named Dr Che Ku Hashim Che Ku Mat as its candidate for the state seat.
The incumbent is his cousin, Tengku Zaihan Che Ku Abd Rahman, who won the seat by a 2,592 majority in the previous general election.
Zaihan said he would defend his seat if he was renominated by the Barisan Nasional leadership.
“We practice mature politics in fighting for our respective parties. There will be no personal grudges,” he said.
“Our ideologies may differ but blood is thicker than water. What is important is that people realise BN has been safeguarding their well-being all along and will continue to do so forever.”
Dr Hashim, who owns a health clinic in Pasir Putih, Kelantan, said both of them wanted to safeguard the welfare and interests of the community in Kuala Besut.
“I am confident that our political confrontation will not affect our family ties,” he said.
“We remain cousins, and our fathers remain our uncles.”
