SHAH ALAM: Datuk Seri Azmin Ali is a coward and an irresponsible leader for trying to run away from contesting in Gombak, said Datuk Mat Nadzari Dahalan.
The Selangor Barisan Nasional deputy chairman said Azmin, who is PKR deputy president and incumbent holder of Gombak parliamentary seat, offered Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad to contest the seat only because his failures as an elected representative there had surfaced.
"It is a cowardly and irresponsible act. After all his weaknesses in Gombak, where he has failed to meet the many demands of the people, now he wants to run away.
"On top of that, he suggested a person who no longer has energy to go down and provide services to the people. I am worried that the 'Wan Azizah phenomenon' in Kajang and Permatang Pauh will happen in Gombak. In the end, it is at the expense of the people," he said, in reference to PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.
He claimed Wan Azizah has seldom shown up in Kajang and Permatang Pauh to provide her services to the constituencies, leaving the people there in limbo.
Last night, Azmin tweeted that he was ready to make way for Dr Mahathir to contest in Gombak.
