IPOH: Perak Barisan Nasional (BN) is open to the idea of swapping parliamentary and state seats among its component parties for the upcoming 14th General Election (GE14).
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir said discussions are underway on possible switching of seats and the doors remained open to discuss the strategy.
"We are ready to take on the upcoming general election and have started the necessary preparations for it.
"We have the names and they are still being assessed.
"It is not a question of old or new faces. Candidates will be chosen based on likeability and winnable factor. It also all depends on the BN's consensus," he said after attending a ground-breaking ceremony of Ipoh Shoe City at Pengkalan Lahat Industrial area here today.
Also present were state Footwear Industrial Association Lee Min Choy and State Health, Public Transport, Non-Islamic Affairs, National Integration and New Villages committee chairman Datuk Dr Mah Hang Soon.
In the last general election, BN won 31 seats, DAP (18), PKR (5), Parti Amanah Negara (PAN) (1) and Pas (4) in Perak.
Prime Minister and Umno president Datuk Seri Najib Razak at the recent 71st Umno General Assembly had said that Umno must win big in GE14, which he described as the “mother of all general elections.”
Najib made it clear that Umno would not only continue ruling the country for the next 30 years, but for another 1,000 years.
