NIBONG TEBAL: DAP should step back and allow the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to carry out its investigation on the illegal carbon filter factory in Sungai Lembu, without hindrance.
Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid said DAP should stop harping on the arrest of state Welfare, Caring Society and Environment Committee chairman Phee Boon Poh and let the authorities conduct their probe free from interference.
"(DAP is) practicing double standard. Whenever one of them is arrested, they say it is unfair. But if other party leaders are arrested, they call for stern action to be taken.
"This should not have happened at all. Let MACC look into the matter, let them investigate freely," he said after launching the Umno Nibong Tebal division meeting here today.
Mahdzir was commenting on Phee's lawyer’s filing for a revision against his five-day remand order, which was granted by George Town’s magistrate's court in connection with an alleged graft case.
The MACC and other government agencies raided the illegal factory in Sungai Lembu on Thursday. A follow-up raid was conducted at Phee's office in Komtar.
Phee was later arrested along with two others – the factory's 70-year-old manager and his 37-year-old son, the factory's director.
Phee is being investigated by the MACC under Section 23 of the MACC Act 2009 for abuse of power for gratification.
His lawyers’ bid for the remand revision failed after the Alor Star High Court turned down the application today. His five-day remand order expires this Wednesday.
