PETRA JAYA: Sarawak Barisan Nasional (BN) is expected to hold a meeting to discuss the upcoming Pujut state seat by-election following the Gawai Dayak celebration next month.

Its chairman, Datuk Amar Abang Johari Abang Openg, said the ruling coalition will only decide on selecting a candidate from either the Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) or the United People’s Party (UPP) during the meeting.

The chief minister, however, did not specify the date of the meeting.

“At the moment, I am concentrating on the ongoing state assembly sitting. I have yet to think about the by-election.

“And we still have ample time to decide on the matter,” Abang Johari told reporters when met at the Sarawak legislative assembly complex here today.

Abang Johari said BN is ever ready to contest in the by-election, the nomination and polling for which have been fixed for June 20 and July 4, respectively.
