ALOR STAR: Kedah Umno Youth Wing today challenged the state Pakatan Harapan to name their menteri besar candidate should the opposition manage to form a new state government in the next general election.
Its chief Datuk Shaiful Hazizy Zainol Abidin asked if Parti Amanah Negara (PAN), DAP and PKR would make way for a candidate from Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM), the youngest party among the pact.
"PPBM is just daydreaming, trying to be recognised as the leader in Kedah's political pact when the party itself is weak," he said in a statement today.
As such, Shaiful urged PPBM to be realistic when suggesting that it should be allowed to take charge of the Pakatan pact in Kedah.
He was responding to the PPBM president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin's remark that the party be made the leader of the opposition pact in Kedah to face the next polls, subjected to the agreement among its partners.
Yesterday, Muhyiddin said PPBM should be allowed to lead the pact as it has garnered significant support from Kedahans.
Shaiful said Muhyiddin was merely conducting a psychological warfare to woo support among the people of Kedah.
"However, the public is well aware of the crisis in PPBM now with many of its members having lost their faith on the party leadership.
"Not even a year after it was formed, some of the founding members have left the party, so what is PPBM's contribution to Pakatan in Kedah?" he asked.
Shaiful said PPBM should respond to the issues before expressing its wish to be made the leader of the opposition pact in Kedah.
"To become a leader of a coalition, the party itself must be able to win in the general election and not just by bragging on the number of crowd turnout in its political rallies." he said.
