PORT DICKSON: Permodalan Nasional Bhd (PNB) is spurring the growth of affordable housing with the construction of 5,000 homes in Selangor and Negri Sembilan.

PNB group chairman Tan Sri Abdul Wahid Omar said 140 units of single storey terrace houses have been built in Bagan Pinang, here, to enable those in the B40 and M40 groups to own homes.

He said the 1,000 sq ft landed houses came with three bedrooms and two bathrooms, at were priced between RM180,000 and RM200,000.

“This construction is the first project in Bagan Pinang, in line with the government’s objective in providing more affordable homes to the people. Overall, a total of 5,000 houses will be built in Pedas, Rembau and Banting, Selangor with the project in this district being the pilot project,” he said at the launch of the PNB Value Homes project at Jalan Pinang 1, Bagan Pinang.

The event was launched by Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan. Also present was PNB group chief executive officer Datuk Abdul Rahman Ahmad.

Wahid said the project, which is being conducted by PNB subsidiary company PNB Value Homes Sdn Bhd, will be started in June and is expected to be completed in June 2020.

“The projects are being developed through an industrial building system (IBR) which prioritises married couples aged 21 and above, with a household income of not more than RM5,000. It is near public facilities such as schools, clinics, police stations and others,” he said.


“This construction is the first project in Bagan Pinang, in line with the government’s objective in providing more affordable homes to the people. According to Wahid, PNB does not serve as an investing institution only but also serves to help the government provide affordable homes through its corporate social responsibility programme.

“Having a home is a necessity and contributes to the wellbeing of the people. PNB is very pleased to be able to support the government’s initiative to develop affordable homes.

“Ever since I was given the mandate as group chairman, (Prime Minister) Datuk Seri Najib Razak has not only asked me to renew the company’s profile and finances, but also provide as many affordable homes as possible,” he said.

Meanwhile, Mohamad complimented PNB’s efforts in echoing the government’s intentions to build affordable homes.

He said escalating prices of houses had become a major problem for the government and therefore, corporations should help to provide affordable homes.
