KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak made a surprise visit to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL) here today.
Najib arrived at about 4pm at the Obstetric and Gynaecology Department together with his entourage and was welcomed by HKL director-general Datin Dr Nor Akma Yusuf.
Najib, who was clad in a white shirt, spent some time greeting members of the public before visiting the wards.
He spent about 20 minutes at the premises before going to observe the newly built Women and Children’s Hospital Kuala Lumpur building located about 300 metres away.
The RM848 million complex for women and children will have 600 beds and help ease congestion at the old paediatrics’ institute.
Accompanying him was Second Finance Minister and Titiwangsa member of parliament Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani.
Some people who saw the prime minister tried to take a selfie with him. They then shook hands with Najib before he left the building.
Mohd Faridul Ismail Abd Shukor, 52, said this was the first time he saw the Prime Minister.
“I came here to visit my daughter who just gave birth yesterday. I never expected to meet the country’s number one leader here,” he said.
