ALOR STAR: A security guard was not only beaten up by two armed robbers, they also stole RM50 from the hapless guard when they broke into a petrol station in Lebuhraya Darul Aman here early Thursday morning.
The incident occurred at about 5.15am when the victim, in his 40s, was fast sleep inside the station’s front office.
Kota Setar district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Rozi Jidin said two men broke into the station by forcing open the front door using a sharp object.
He said the guard, who was awaken by the robbers' presence, tried to put up a fight but was hit by the robbers, who were armed with a metal rod.
"The guard was rushed to the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital where he received 15 stitches on his head and three stitches on his arm,” he said.
Mohd Rozi said the two men were wearing crash helmets when they broke into the station.
"The robbers made off with RM3,500 in cash and 30 cartons of cigarettes in various brands from the station. Before fleeing, they also stole RM50 from the guard," he said.
The case have been classified under Section 394 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt during robbery, which carries a maximum of 20 years’ jail term and liable to fine or whipping, upon conviction.
