AI-powered Honor View 10

WITH artificial intelligence (AI) now becoming a part of our life, smartphones are also getting smarter each day. Honor, with its AI-powered View10 smartphone, has a lot to offer to users in their daily life.

Thanks to the 6.97mm thickness, this phone looks and feels sleek. It doesn’t feel light but it is not that bulky either, and it has that premium heft with the metal unibody. There’s nothing much at the back of the phone besides the Honor logo and its dual camera setting, but once you turn it around, you’ll get a beauty.

The phone features a 5.99-inch FullHD+ display and has an 18:9 aspect ratio with minimal bezels. The display is bright and offers excellent colour hues that are also sharp. Covering the display is a high-grade 2.5D curved glass that’s both durable and scratch resistant for display protection. The home button is situated at the bottom of the display, which also acts as a fingerprint reader and supports various task gestures.

A dual sim hybrids lot is located at the left side while the power and volume buttons are on the right. At the base of the device is the USB Type-Cand headphone jack. There’s also a mono firing speaker.

Under the hood, the View10 is powered by Silicon Kirin 970 chip, which has its own neural-network processing unit for AI. Some of the AI functions, like the live translation of texts, are very useful, especially when you want to order food from a menu written in foreign languages. Supported by EMUI 8 that’s based on Android 8.0 Oreo, this phone also has a Face Unlock feature to enhance security and ease of use.

There’s a huge 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage equipped with the phone, so there are no issues scrolling through Facebook feed or swapping between multiple apps. Even gaming is very fast, no slowdown of any kind. The 3750mAh battery gets you fuelled up for a day’s use. It has a SuperCharge function which also convenient for users.

The View10 has an RGB monochrome combination of 16MP+20MP cameras. Good lighting conditions make pictures sharp, and even better with the high dynamic range feature turned on. Even in low-light conditions, the camera managed to capture a good amount of details as well, though the colour may not always be on point. For selfies, the 13MP shooter does an excellent job, and the effects stickers are also a fun touch for your pictures. The Beauty mode is available for those who want to hide acne or wrinkles in pictures. In terms of bokeh, the camera gives a nice, smooth one with its f/1.8 aperture.

There’s a portrait mode called the wide aperture where you can change the blurring before or after taking a picture. There are a lot of shooting modes, and combined with the AI processing chipset, the camera is able to detect objects, landscapes, flowers, text or people and adjust the settings accordingly to produce the perfect shot. The smart scene recognition make seven beginners looked like professional photographers.

In terms of videos, the View10 is able to shoot a 4K video at 30fps but the lack of image stabilisation can be a bummer for those with shaky hands.

The number of AI functions and large storage capacity make the Honor View10 a great deal. This mid-range phone offers a high-end experience and with potential improvements coming to the Kirin 970 in the future, this phone can maintain its relevance longer than other flagship devices. It is available at RM2,099.
