KUALA LUMPUR: The National ICT Association of Malaysia (Pikom) has called on Malaysian companies to stop their 'wait and see' attitude in reporting any incidents involving the WannaCry ransomware.
PIKOM said it was important for organisations to immediately lodge a report if the they have been issued a ransom demand in the cyber attack.
“Many organisations would rather keep a low profile and hope that the issue blows over. However, these issues cannot be swept under the carpet,” Pikom said.
“Organisations must take necessary steps to prevent and thwart cyber attacks by ensuring that their assets are protected through installing the right tools to guard against attacks and intrusions,” it said.
This includes good cyber security defence which will involve proper business risk assessment, as well as installation of IT security policies and procedures, said Pikom.
It is also vital to ensure that staff or members of the organisations are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to deal with cyber attacks.
Pikom said it has not received any reports from its 1,000-plus members and encourages its members to stay vigilant over the attacks.
