The Zero Engineering motorcycles on display during the preview

BIKE builder Shinya Kimura from Okazaki, Japan, is one of the most famed bike builders in the world, known for his “zero-style” motorcycle builds.

Now it’s possible to own your own Zero bike in Malaysia after local company Didi Resources Sdn Bhd appointed Stronghold Cycles Sdn Bhd as its official dealer to retail and market the bikes.

Established in 1992, Zero Engineering celebrated 25 years of the original samurai chopper, “The Zero Style”, founded by the famed custom bike builder Kimura. It is one of the reputable names in the custom motorcycle industry, known for its uncompromising style, beauty and attention to detail. In 2002, Zero Engineering teamed up with Plot Inc, one of the biggest names in the motorcycle industry in Japan, to start a production version of the zero-style motorcycles.

Zero Engineering is based in Aichi Prefecture, the heart of Japan’s automotive industry and a centre for technology.

Their motorcycles are characterised by their minimal amount of decoration and meticulous attention to detail. Each model has a well-defined design concept with styling cues inspired from the 1960s and 1970s. Two Zero Engineering bikes were commissioned for Iron Man and Iron Man 2. High-profile owners include Brad Pitt and David Beckham.

So how does one get about owning a Zero Engineering bike?

Each bike takes several months to complete, which the company says reflects the commitment invested in each production.

The design element that signifies the “zero style” is the signature gooseneck and dragon neck frames that match the springer front-end.

Malaysian customers will have three different types of samurai choppers to choose from, which are the Type-5, Type-6 and Type-9i, available with different, tuned engines from S&S Cycle.

The Type-5 and Type-6 feature rigid chassis and modern engineering, staying true to their predecessors while delivering modern reliability and performance.

The Type-9i blends style and performance with its classic rigid looks and multi-link suspension.

Zero Engineering is located at The Gasket Alley in Petaling Jaya, which is a new lifestyle hub that houses several motorcycle brands, apparels and gears, a cafe, and also a community working space for the motorcycle industry.
